Even the most average of homes has a long driveway, which means it is impossible or at least very difficult to see accurately who arrives at your home. Being able to see who drives up to your home can greatly improve the layer of protection for your home. That is the rationale behind so called driveway alarm systems.
The majority of driveway alarm systems operate by placing infra red sensors at certain primary parts of your home such as in the yard or in the driveway itself. The sensors are then connected to a transmitter that will send a signal to the receiver in your home. When a vehicle or a person steps through and thus breaks the beam, this will then send a signal to the transmitter. This in turn notifies the owner that someone is in the perimeter of the house. A magnetic sensor can be used to detect the presence of vehicles with a greater degree of precision.

Modern technology and breakthroughs in the home security area have now added a whole new level of efficiency to lights as a viable security device. In the past, lights were typically a static affair, offering limited and rather one dimensional security. Lights were limited to either being kept on all day and night to deter burglars, or as floodlights designed to envelope a burglar in a blinding ray of light.
This has now changed. With computers and the Internet, it possible for lights to be totally randomized, thereby more realistically mimicking actual human behavior, acting as a crucial first layer of protection to deter burglars. However, careful thought has to be given as to the actual layout and level of lighting given. If used in an inappropriate manner, the lighting levels will not only become painfully obvious to the burglar that it is indeed just a hollow illusion, but will provide them with a clear view of what wonderful treasure awaits them.
